College Student Seeks Immediate Bone-Marrow Donor
December 17, 2012
Salinas Valley Memorial is looking for a bone-marrow match for a 22-year-old college student who needs an immediate transplant.
Camila de la Llata, a theater education and directing major originally from Monterey, was enrolled for her senior year at CSU Fullerton when she received the diagnosis.
The hospital is seeking donors of mixed race Caucasian and Mexican or Latino descent, anyone with some Latino or Native American ancestry.
Doctors say chemo will not cure Camila or keep her leukemia in remission, so there is an urgent need for the transplant.
"Doctor's cannot save her life. Someone who has acute leukemia can only be saved by a donor, and we're still looking for that donor," says her mother Robin de la Llata Aime.
To register in person, you can go to the Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital?s Medical Museum on Wednesday, Dec. 19 between 3pm and 7pm.
