LOS ANGELES (TheWrap) ? Paul Rudd is taking a turn into the dark.
The usually comic actor, who stars in the upcoming "Our Idiot Brother" and "Wanderlust," is joining the cast of Oscar-winning documentarian Errol Morris' first major non-documentary feature, TheWrap has confirmed.
The movie, still untitled, is about Bob Nelson, a television repairman who developed an interest in cryonics -- freezing people -- and became the president of the Cryonics Society of California.
During Nelson's tenure, some of the nine bodies that were in a deep freeze thawed after not being properly maintained. Nelson had maintained them at his own expense. The ensuing scandal tainted cryonics.
The story is based on "You're As Cold As Ice," a segment of Ira Glass' "This American Life." Zach Helm, who wrote "Stranger than Fiction," is writing the movie. Glass is collaborating.
Morris is a serious guy. Director of the acclaimed "The Thin Blue Line," he won the Academy Award for his 2003 "The Fog of War: 11 Lessons From the Life of Robert S. McNamara."
He first told the Washington Post that Rudd would star while promoting his upcoming documentary "Tabloid."
