Hawks, Lions play to scoreless draw - Athletics & Recreation

Laurier: 0 York: 0

TORONTO (September 1, 2012) - The Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks women's soccer team opened their season by earning a single point on the road as they played to a 0-0 draw with the York Lions on Saturday afternoon.

The Hawks, last year's OUA silver medalists, controlled the play for much of the game as they had eight shot attempts to the Lions five. Emily Brown of Waterloo, Ont., and Julie Maheu of Oakville, Ont., led Laurier with two shots each while five different Lions recorded shots for York.

Maggie Carmichael of Orono, Ont., earned her first career OUA shutout as she made two saves in the game. Yorks Sarah Fiorini of Newmarket, Ont., finished with five saves for the clean sheet.

Laurier will look to earn their first win of the season tomorrow afternoon when they travel to Guelph to take on the Gryphons. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Alumni Stadium.
