Today?s 19th and rainy wet 209 kilometer long stage of Giro d?Italia was a demanding an hilly stretch from Bergamo to Macugnaga where another break dominated the events. Saxo Bank-SunGard?s Alberto Contador was in no trouble at any time during the stage as he was guided by his loyal teammates from the start in Bergamo to the finish line on top of the closing climb.

And on the steep final kilometers, the last escapees were caught by an aggressive fighting Alberto Contador who took former teammate, Paolo Tiralongo (Astana) to the finish line where the Astana rider took the stage win while the Saxo Bank-SunGard captain distanced the other favorites in superb style:

?It was a perfect stage for us. Everyone worked and did their job perfectly and especially it was good to see Alberto being surrounded by teammates until the very last part of the climb which undoubtedly made him calm and power to jump forward the way he did. Tomorrow, we face our final stage as a team and primarily, our objective is to maintain our lead. If Alberto feels good and he?s in a favorable position, a stage win would only be an extra bonus for all of us,? said a happy Saxo Bank-SunGard sports director, Philippe Mauduit.

Saxo Bank-SunGard?s Alberto Contador leads with more than five minutes before tomorrow?s final mountain stage.
