Family fair, er, shower! | Square Piece

For anyone who missed your local county fair this summer, you should have been at our family baby shower yesterday!

Goodness!

There were games, prizes and even a moon bounce!

Look at this prize table! ?(Mmmhmm, might wanna think twice about being anti-baby shower games!)

My mother-in-law, Donna, has spent months pouring over every detail of this shower, from the center pieces to the food to the balloons to the ? well, everything! ?She even made lily balls to hang from the ceiling!

Brian and I made out like bandits! ?And can I just say something? ?I LOVED having Brian with me! ?How fun to discover all these baby goodies with my baby?s daddy! ?He admitted to not knowing what a few things were.

For instance, we had to teach Brian that these are for babies to chew and suck on things like fruit without choking or accidentally swallowing the food whole:

His most embarrassing moment might have been when we opened milk trays. ?I was super excited to get these because the breast milk can be frozen in cylindrical shapes to easily plop into a bottle and then thaw.

While we were both touched especially by the handmade gifts, Brian made a point to mention each one of them on our drive back home. ?He was so grateful for the thoughtfulness of others. ?It?s sweet when people take the time to craft their own creative gifts!

Something a bit unusual that I was thrilled to receive were these bumper slats by Oliver B. ?Bumpers in cribs are poo-pooed these days for fear of suffocation. ?It?s recommended that bumpers be breathable, so I discovered these and fell in love with them. ?Aren?t they pretty?

(No, that?s not our crib. ?We?ve got some major organizing to do before I?m that far ahead!)

Bennett?s getting a good head start on a pretty adorable wardrobe. ?(Watch out, ladies!) ?At one point, I was holding the teeniest onesie and was shocked to realize that it was for a three month old! ?They come smaller than that?!

(Give me time, I?m learning.)

Just so ya know, on the left is Brian?s dad, Lee, and on the right is his mom, Donna. ?(And, of course, at the bottom is our little girl, Esther.) ?(By the way, I plan on wearing that dress as many times as I can while it still fits? so you might see it again!)

Now that the dust has settled and I?m digging back through the loot, another idiosyncrasy of mine has been unearthed: I love saving tissue paper, smoothing it back out and folding it nicely. ?If I were a tree, I think that given my options I?d like to be headed towards a life of tissue paper. ?It?s so cheerful. ?(Do you save tissue paper?)

And in other good news, if you remember my story of Dorothy from the Thieves? Christmas, time has favored me and she?s completely forgotten who I am!

A BIG THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO PARTICIPATED IN THE SHOWER! ?We are immensely blessed to have you celebrating Bennett?s arrival with us! ?I really don?t know how we?d manage without the generosity of our friends and family.
