National college roundup: Oklahoma State upsets N.C. State

Le?Bryan Nash has 23 points and Marcus Smart added 20 points, seven rebounds, seven assists and Oklahoma State earned a 76-56 win over No. 6 N.C. State in the title game of the Puerto Rico Tipoff on Sunday in Bayamon, Puerto Rico.

Phil Forte had 17 points for the Cowboys (4-0), who outrebounded the Wolfpack 45-34. ?

Rodney Purvis had 16 points and T.J. Warren added 15 points for the Wolfpack (3-1), who shot only 28.6 percent from the field. ?

?You could tell when we first scored, they didn?t have a feeling of intensity by the looks on their faces,? said Smart, who was the tournament MVP. ?They have a lot of great players. And we just knew we were gonna have to come out, be ready and play hard. I could feel it. I could sense I was hot and my teammates got me the ball and it got us going.?

Smart had a pair of 3-pointers early that helped the Cowboys to a 13-9 lead.

?We have to come out and have a better start,? Purvis said. ?But that won?t happen anymore. This can happen any night. We have a bull?s-eye on our back. We have to prepare ourselves physically and mentally for every game and come out here and play.?

(2) Louisville 80, Miami (Ohio) 39: Russ Smith was 5-of-7 from 3-point range and scored a game-high 23 points and Wayne Blackshear added 14 points and six rebounds for the Cardinals in Louisville, Ky.

(8) Syracuse 88, Wwagner 57: Brandon Triche had 21 points and seven rebounds and James Southerland added 15 points and three blocks, to lead the Orange in Syracuse, N.Y.

(9) Duke 88, Florida Gulf Coast 67: Mason Plumlee scored a career-high 28 points as the Blue Devils, who scored 30 straight points ? including a 23-0 run to close the first half in Durham, N.C.

(10) Florida 66, Middle Tennessee 45: Kenny Boynton had 20 points and Will Yeguete scored 11 and grabbed 13 rebounds Sunday to help the Gators pull away from the Blue Raiders in Tampa, Fla.

(16) Baylor 97, St. John's 78: Brady Heslip had a career-high 29 points on eight 3-pointers to lead the Bears to third place at the Charleston Classic.

Heslip?s seventh 3-pointer put Baylor up for good at 69-66 with 9:36 to play in Charleston, N.C. The Red Storm closed to 73-72 on Phil Greene?s basket, but Jefferson hit two foul shots and Baylor star Pierre Jackson scored five straight points.

(19) Gonzaga 96, South Dakota 58: Elias Harris had 16 points and a career-high 18 rebounds as the Bulldogs overwhelmed the Coyotes in Spokane, Wash.

(21) Michigan State 69, Texas Southern 41: Gary Harris scored 19 points, including 14 in a lopsided first half as the the Spartans won their 36th straight home opener in East Lansing, Mich.

Fred Sturdivant had 10 points and 12 rebounds for the Tigers. ?

Minnesota 72, Richmond 57: Rodney Williams had 15 points, six rebounds and four assists for the Gophers in Minneapolis. Derrick Williams led the Spiders with 16 points.

(22) Wisconsin 73, Cornell 40: The Big Red started just 1-of-11 from the field, and a Sam Dekker steal and dunk pushed the Badgers? lead to 38-16 in in Madison, Wis.

(24) Cincinatti 93, North Carolina A&T 39: Sean Kilpatrick scored a career-high 29 points, hitting eight shots from behind the arc as the Bearcats dominated in the home win.

Akron 85, Penn State 60: Zeke Marshall had 17 points and six blocks to lead the Zips past the Nittany Lions in the fifth-place game in Puerto Rico. ?

"If there is a better at-the-rim defender in the country, I haven?t seen him yet," Akron coach Keith Dambrot said. ?

D.J. Newbill had 20 points for the Penn State.

Nebraska 75, Nebraska-Omaha 62: Dylan Talley scored 14 of his career-high 22 points in the second half to lead the Cornhuskers in the first NCAA Division 1 game between the two schools in Lincoln, Neb. ?

Northwestern 80, Fairleigh Dickinson 53: Reggie Hearn scored 14 points for the Wildcats in Evanston.
